Village cricket is famously the hub of an English rural community and The Cricketers Saffron Walden lives up to its namesake. Steeped in a history of family, fine food and exceptional hospitality, we look forward to introducing you to our newly refurbished interiors.
Hospitality remains at the heart of all we do, delivered by The Cricketers’ familiar and much-loved team of seasoned hosts, who look forward to welcoming you back.

Our bar and dining areas have been thoughtfully reimagined and updated, inspired by the original 16th century fabric of the building. Brickwork and beams complemented by copper, wood panelling and calming pallets of natural colours and textures.
Upstairs, our refreshed bedrooms bring the Essex countryside indoors with floral prints, botanical inspired fabrics, and soothing paint shades that reflect the landscape.
OUR LANDSCAPE
Clavering is the “place where clover grows” (as well as some notable chefs), nestled amidst beautiful North West Essex rolling countryside, close to the borders of both Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. On our doorstep you will find, walks, cycle routes and idyllic thatched cottages.
We are just a stone’s throw from the historic town of Saffron Walden , soak up the culture and wander through the lanes, browsing the shops and cafes. We are also perfectly placed to explore the opulent Audley End House and gardens, racing at Newmarket or a day out in Cambridge.

From our historic main building to our courtyard rooms, we have a choice of elegantly refurbished rooms full of luxurious textures and colour, for your Essex getaway. Choose our courtyard rooms that are clustered around an atmospheric terrace garden, just a stroll from the pub or The Willow rooms that feature outdoor terraces and views across the glorious countryside.
Wagging tails will always be welcome through our door. So much so that we have created a dog friendly overnight stay package and a special dog menu, with your four-legged companion in mind. Contact us to enquire which rooms are suitable for your pet.

What are your opening times?
We’re open every day. Mon to Fri 7:30am to 11pm and Sat to Sun 8am to 11pm. Find out more about our kitchen opening times.

Do you have parking available?
If you are a guest at our restaurant or accommodation, we have parking available at the side of our pub.
Is The Cricketers Saffron Walden dog friendly?
We love to welcome the whole family, including wagging tails! Dogs are allowed in all areas of our pubs and our dog-friendly pub rooms.
