THE CRICKETERS
Village cricket is famously the hub of an English rural community and The Cricketers lives up to its namesake. Steeped in a history of family, fine food and exceptional hospitality, we look forward to introducing you to our newly refurbished interiors.
The bar and dining areas have been sympathetically updated, reimagined spaces, inspired by the original 16th century fabric of the building. Brickwork and beams complimented by copper, wood panelling and gentle colours and textures. Our bedrooms, also refreshed, bring the Essex countryside inside with floral and botanical inspired fabrics, papers and paints.
Hospitality remains at the centre of all we do, delivered by The Cricketers’ familiar and much-loved team, seasoned players looking forward to welcoming you back.
Anything else just wouldn’t be cricket!
OUR LANDSCAPE
Clavering is the “place where clover grows” (as well as some notable chefs), is nestled amidst beautiful North West Essex rolling countryside, close to the borders of both Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. On our doorstep you will find, walks, cycle routes and idyllic thatched cottages.
We are just a stone’s throw from the historic town of Saffron Walden offering shops, cafes and culture. We are also perfectly placed to explore the opulent Audley End House and gardens, racing at Newmarket or a day out in Cambridge.
There are plenty of reasons to linger.
Take a look at our Tree Line Trundle walking map, a circular route that takes in Clavering lakes and the countryside that wraps around our pub.
Seared, sizzled or slow cooked meat and game. Chargrilled, marinated or pickled fish and sea food. Sliced, diced and shredded lively, seasonal fruit and vegetables.
Our Head Chef inspires our kitchen team to bring these ingredients and their cooking skills to our menus and your table.
Our menus change with the seasons and our Cricketers specials by the day.
Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, is worth getting out of bed for here.
No need to leave when it's time to draw stumps.
We have a choice of elegantly refurbished rooms, from our historic main building to our courtyard rooms, clustered around an atmospheric terrace garden just a stroll from the pub. The Willow rooms benefit from outdoor terraces and views across the glorious Essex countryside are full of luxurious textures and colour.
We are now dog friendly too, just enquire which rooms are suitable for your four legged friends.
Wagging tails will always be welcome through our door. So much so, that we have created a dog friendly overnight stay package and a special dog menu, with your four-legged companion in mind.
Our team members are always on hand with doggy treats and tips for the best dog walks in our area.
We very much look forward to welcoming you to our neck of the woods soon. If you need to get in touch with us you can use our contact form or give us a call using the telephone number at the top of this page
